Disengaged Adolescents - The Need for Churches to Retain Youth

This research project examines the common problems associated with youth attending church and remaining an active part of its ministry because of the church's ability to assess and address the needs of youth. This research unveils the various problems and influences both internally and externally that dissuade youth from participating in church or ministry. Furthermore, this paper considers the churches' current approach to counteracting negative influences and retaining adolescents, and in response, provides a model based upon social transformation that will assist in the churches' transforming process.

This thesis will demonstrate helpful and practical insights about how to effectively minister to youth. The first chapter examines the purpose, the need for the study, the methodology, and the limitations. The second chapter explores literature reviews that indicate many youth acquire a sense of identity from their environment, which usually stems from the media, peers, family and geographic location. The third chapter analyzes the research methodology and findings of youth participants and ministers/leaders. The fourth chapter examines the statistical analyses of the youths' and youth ministers/leaders perspectives. The fifth chapter is a conclusion and overview of the research project, provides recommendations for further study, a recommended model, implication of research along with a few suggests and a theological perspective.
